The Town of Greater Napanee’s annual Total Burn Ban is in place from April 1st through May 15th.
Under a Total Burn Ban, there can be no lighting any fires in open air, including campfires, or any activities that may start a fire, such as setting off fireworks.
Residents not adhering to the ban may be fined and liable for costs.
In the Town’s frequently asked questions, they share that this annual Total Burn Ban is to allow “for spring vegetation to blossom, while also minimizing the unnecessary burden that grass and brush fires place on Emergency Services resources, and ultimately Greater Napanee taxpayers.”
The annual Total Burn Ban went into effect in 2016. Since then, Greater Napanee Fire Services reports the annual calls for out-of-control fires have significantly reduced.
