A union official representing Ontario education workers says members voted more strongly than she expected to ratify a three-year contract that provides annual wage increases of one-dollar an hour.
The head of CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions says about 73 per cent of those who voted were in favour of the deal — which she didn’t like because it doesn’t include staffing level guarantees.
Laura Walton says that’s a bit higher than she expected, while Education Minister Stephen Lecce (LEH’-chay) calls it a strong mandate from workers.
The province is continuing contract negotiations with the four major teachers’ unions — which have not revealed what they are proposing in negotiations or what the government has offered
