The Ontario government is hanging tough on their promise to keep kids in school.
Millions of students and their parents are waiting to see the outcome of legislation tabled on Monday, the “Keeping Students in Class Act”
The legislation, if passed, would prevent CUPE and the 55-thousand education support staff they represent, from going on strike Friday as planned.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce said that children are his first priority.
Lecce said the Ford government felt forced to pursue this legislation.
According to Lecce, five months of bargaining has led to this outcome.
CUPE, representing 55-thousand school support workers, not teachers, says it will fight the legislation in every way it can.
Ford’s government is hoping to pass the legislation before the Friday deadline and make good on their promise to keep kids in school.
There is still a plan to walk out on Friday, even if they have to call it a political protest.
