Local police are warning about a new WhatsApp scam. Cybercriminals are sending innocent messages through WhatsApp to earn your trust.
They then try to convince you to call a phone number that begins with a 67 prefix, that if called, your mobile carrier will forward your personal phone number to the cybercriminal’s phone
Once they have your number, they can reset your WhatsApp password to log you out, and start to message your contacts to send them money.
To stay safe, be cautious of who you call on WhatsApp, verify that the call forwarding prefix matches the country that your contact is calling from, and learn about common social engineering red flags.
