The topics of affordable housing, health care, climate change and others were top of mind at the All-Candidates meeting held by the Napanee and District Chamber of Commerce. In attendance was Conservative Ric Bresee, Liberal Ted Darby, NDP Eric DePoe, New Blue Party Joyce Reid, and Ontario Party Derek Sloan.
The night began with each candidate being given three minutes for an introduction. Then came the questions submitted by H-L&A community members. Each candidate had two minutes to answer the following questions;
- It is important to spread economic investments across the province to create prosperity in small, urban centers, rural, and first nations communities. How will you make sure rural Ontario receives its fare share to improve infrastructure, such as broadband and natural gas, regional immigration programs, affordable housing, and build thriving small town Ontario centers?
- What do you see as the root cause of the current housing crisis, and what do you offer as solution to those problems, short and long-term?
- What do you see as the two most important issues facing our community, and how does your party’s platform present the best solutions?
- What steps will you take to address the challenges in health care in this region?
- Supply chain issues have hampered business competitiveness throughout the pandemic. What actions would you take to ensure their resiliency?
Following these questions, each candidate had a chance to ask a question to another candidate if they chose to.
