A local woman is raising money and awareness of Period Poverty in the community.
myFM spoke with Maggie Kimmett, who says being a “period-haver” herself, she is aware of our society’s stigma on the topic of periods. As a result, women experience countless times scrambling to the bathroom while trying to manage hiding period products or coughing in the bathroom trying to mask the sound of a wrapper opening.
Kimmett has decided to work to break the stigma and topple the period poverty.
Money raised will be donated to Lennox and Addington Interval House. She tells us a bit about why she chose to donate to Interval House.
Her initial goal of $500 raised by the end of February has already been more than doubled, having raised over $1200.
Kimmett tells us how to get involved in this initiative.
