Napanee District Secondary School students were outside protesting today. They say a student was sexually assaulted and was advised by a staff member not to speak out about it in school. Thirty to fifty students were protesting throughout the day, and some say they’d have no problem being out all week if needed.
Lennox and Addington OPP confirm that they are investigating allegations of a sexual assault, and as the investigation is ongoing, they cannot comment at this time.
The following statement has been issued by Principal Pincivero and the staff at NDSS
The safety and well-being of students is always the school’s and the Limestone District School Board’s first priority.
All allegations or reports of a serious nature are investigated completely according to board procedures, as well as through law enforcement where applicable.
When something occurs that impacts student safety and well-being, it is of significant concern to us all.
We encourage students to reach out to school staff or another trusted adult and/or the police as appropriate if they have concerns.
Our school is a safe place, where students come to learn and be with their friends. As we do every day, we will continue to ensure NDSS is a safe place for learning.
NDSS nor the board can comment on this situation at this time as it is under OPP investigation.
Principal Erin Pincivero
