Plans are in the works for an upcoming Fireworks show in the Town of Deseronto. Deseronto town council discussed the future show during a council meeting last night, July 14.
With Ontario entering Step Three of its Roadmap to Reopening, outdoor gathering sizes are a maximum of 100 people. Deputy Mayor Steven Everhardus says he wants to make sure this falls in the parameters of Stage Three.
Councillor Kevin Smith brought forward the question as to if they have enough firefighters licensed to set them off. Deputy Mayor Everhardus added that is another thing they will need to look into. He added he believed the distributer can provide support lighting off the fireworks.
Everhardus then made a motion they have staff refer their proposal to the health unit for approval. Discussion was had as to a possible date, and currently it looks like it will be held on or before the Labour Day weekend. It was then brought to council’s attention that the fire chief had tentatively made plans with the pirotech company for the Labour day weekend as they do not have enough firemen at this point.
Council will now be waiting to hear back approval from Public Health as well as the local firemen before setting a date for the show.
Councillor Amber Hudson had this to say,
Deputy Mayor Steven Everhardus ended the discussion with saying, “When we can have fireworks, we will have fireworks.”
More details are expected to come as to a set date.
