For the first time in a very long time, The Kingston Humane Society has almost no animals at the shelter.
After the state of emergency was declared in the province, the staff at the Kingston Humane Society moved into action to ensure that they were able to find foster homes for all of the animals.
Christie Haaima is the Animals Programs Manager at the Kingston Humane Society says a decision was made to ensure both the safety and well being of the staff and animals.
As of Wednesday March 25, Haaima says 120 animals were placed into foster homes, noting that during their busiest season, which is the summer, they have approximately 80-90 animals in foster care. She did add that the shelter continues to get animals brought in based on the pound contracts that are in place with the city of Kingston, Gananoque, Frontenac, Loyalist and Stone Mills and says that the Kingston Humane Society continues to accept animals based on any emergency situations.
