A health care worker has tested positive for COVID-19 at the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital (LACGH). Dr. Kimberley Morrison has confirmed that a hospital employee who recently traveled to the Barbados tested positive for COVID-19. The health care professional developed symptoms, and was assessed at LACGH on Monday. The person is recovering at home, in self-isolation and is being monitored by KFL&A Public Health.
To protect the health of the public and prevent community spread, KFL&A Public Health is investigating and following up with close contacts both inside and outside the hospital. Hospital staff are taking precautions to protect patients by self-isolating appropriately. Patients in the hospital were not in contact with this staff member and are not considered to be at risk.
Dr. Morrison says, “Given the spread of this virus around the world over the last few weeks, this first case in our community was anticipated and pre-emptive measures and planning are in place to effectively work through this situation. Our front-line teams need to be thanked for all of their efforts and skills as we work together.”
