Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he is open to ending seasonal time changes for the remainder of the province, but wants to reach an agreement with Quebec and neighbouring U.S. jurisdictions first.
Ford told reporters at Queen’s Park on Wednesday that keeping Ontario aligned with Quebec and New York is important because of economic ties.
Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has also expressed interest in eliminating the twice-yearly clock change, although his government has not decided whether to keep daylight time or standard time year-round.
Ford says having different time zones between Ontario and Quebec, for example those traveling the bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau, would create confusion for people travelling between the provinces.
No timeline is in place for those discussions on putting an end to the clock change.
