The Rotary Club of Napanee is launching Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to help local children develop a love of reading.
The program provides free books every month to children from birth to age five, mailing them directly to their homes.
Cynthia Surette, past president and project co-chair, says the program was inspired by Parton’s father, who could not read or write.
The launch takes place Monday at 11 a.m. at the Napanee branch of the Lennox and Addington Libraries, at 25 Water St.
The initial registration area is limited to the K7R postal code, with hopes of expanding in the future.
The first book children receive is The Little Engine That Could.
Surette says a question they’re receiving often is where are the books coming from? Are they Canadian authors?
50/50 tickets are available until Dec. 7, with the draw scheduled for Dec. 8. You can get yours by checking out their Facebook page or connecting with a local Rotarian.
