The Belleville Police Service is temporarily suspending its use and promotion of the Quinte Crime Stoppers tip line and online reporting portal following a cybersecurity incident.
The incident involves Navigate360, the third-party provider of the P3 tip management platform used by Crime Stoppers programs across Canada.
Police say the suspension is a precaution while more information about the breach is reviewed.
Crime Stoppers operates independently from police services, and its platform is separate from Belleville police systems. Information submitted through Crime Stoppers may be shared with police for investigations.
During the suspension, residents can report information directly to Belleville police through its online reporting portal or by calling the non-emergency line at 613-966-0882.
Police say direct contact does not offer the same anonymity as Crime Stoppers.
Anyone reporting an emergency or crime in progress should call 9-1-1.
The service says it will continue working with Quinte Crime Stoppers and provide updates as more information becomes available.
