A $178-million contract has been awarded to expand the Quinte Detention Centre in Greater Napanee.
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Solicitor General announced Monday that EBC Inc. will handle construction of the project. The company was selected through a competitive process that began in October 2024.
The expansion will add space for 91 inmates, bringing the facility’s total capacity to more than 300.
The project will increase capacity for female inmates and improve recreational areas. It will also expand reception and visitation areas, admissions and discharge services, health services, the infirmary and the Institutional Crisis Intervention Team area.
Construction is expected to begin later this year.
The project is part of the Ontario government’s plan to increase adult correctional capacity across the province.
