Hastings – Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee is taking on a new role as parliamentary assistant to the Associate Minister of Forestry and Forest Products, Kevin Holland.
Bresee shared with myFM he will help support the minister by working on policy files, meeting with industry representatives and helping communicate government initiatives across the province.
The role builds on his previous experience with the Ministry of Natural Resources, as well as the ministries of Transportation and Seniors and Accessibility.
Bresee says the forestry sector faces several challenges, including U.S. softwood lumber tariffs and the need to supply materials for Ontario’s housing needs.
He says maintaining a reliable lumber supply requires responsible forest management, a skilled workforce and strong environmental protections.
Bresee also hopes to support emerging industries that turn forestry materials into products such as biofuels.
Bresee says he will meet with Minister Holland early next week to discuss his specific responsibilities in the new role.
