Two people were safely rescued after their canoe capsized on East Lake in Prince Edward County.
Ontario Provincial Police received a call about the incident at about 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026. Both occupants entered the water when the canoe overturned.
Prince Edward Fire and Rescue and Emergency Medical Services assisted police in removing the two people from the water.
Police say both occupants were wearing life jackets when the canoe capsized, helping keep them afloat until rescuers arrived.
The incident serves as a reminder about water safety as temperatures continue to drop across the region.
Police warn that colder water increases the risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia. They encourage anyone spending time on the water to wear a properly fitted life jacket or personal flotation device.
The OPP say wearing a life jacket can save lives when unexpected emergencies happen on the water
