It is a celebration a century in the making.
Queen’s University are about to welcome roughly 4,500 alumni to the Limestone City for this weekend’s 100th Homecoming.
It all kicks off on Friday at 2 pm where alumni will be meeting at Grant Hall.
There is a tour of the 3,400-hectare Biological Station in Elgin. There will also be presentations by Dr. Cathleen Crudden on the research being performed at Queen’s and former Chief of the Defence Staff General (Ret’d) Wayne Eyre about defence and security.
Then on Saturday, it is the alumni parade starting outside Grant Hall at 11 am. The route will go along University Avenue, down Union Street through the West Campus and end at Richardson Stadium where it will be followed by the Gaels football game against the Guelph Gryphons at 1 pm.
There is also a tour of the Athletic Recreation Centre where the Tindall men’s and women’s basketball tournament is taking place throughout the weekend, the Fall Harvest Alumni Gathering at Agnes Benidickson Field, and a screening of a film created for the first Queen’s homecoming at the Douglas Library’s 1924 Reading Room.
Sunday, the men’s and women’s soccer teams will be playing at Richardson Stadium against Ontario Tech.
Over 70 class and faculty reunions will take place. The university says the oldest registered alum is from the Class of 1953.
