Lennox and Addington County is investing in 16 social housing units in Addington Highlands to protect affordable housing and improve living conditions.
County Council took over the Flinton properties from non-profit housing corporation URCA after it could no longer sustain operations. The transfer was finalized in May 2026.
The county has committed to funding capital improvements over the next three to five years to bring the units up to a maintainable standard.
Two units had been uninhabitable for more than two years. The county sought provincial funding in August to help cover the estimated $100,000 repair cost but was unsuccessful.
Warden Jim Hegadorn says the county is taking action to address the need for more social housing.
The investment is significant for Addington Highlands, which has a population of 2,534 and only 39 rent-geared-to-income housing units.
County staff worked to prepare the units for occupancy, with families expected to move in Oct. 30.
