(L to R) Paul Proderick and Mike Budarick
Two candidates are seeking to become Loyalist Township’s next deputy mayor, with economic development, responsible growth and representing residents among their priorities.
Mike Budarick has lived in Amherstview for most of his life and has served eight years on Loyalist Township council, representing Ward 3. He has been involved in local sports, coaching and mentoring, and has served on several municipal committees. Budarick says his experience has helped him understand residents’ concerns and the challenges facing the township.
Budarick says he decided to run for deputy mayor to give Loyalist Township a stronger voice at Lennox and Addington County council.
He believes the township deserves fair representation, noting it contributes the most of the county’s four municipalities. He says his goal is to ensure residents receive a fair shake and their concerns are heard.
His top priorities include attracting commercial and industrial development, reducing reliance on residential property taxes and addressing affordability. He also wants to examine the costs of operating two water treatment systems and improve traffic safety and neighbourhood security.
Paul Proderick was born in Kingston and has lived in Loyalist Township since 1978. He spent 29 years working in education, retiring as a school principal, and has served four years on township council. He also chairs the Heritage Committee and Committee of Adjustment and has experience working with other municipalities through the Cataraqui Conservation Authority.
Proderick entered the deputy mayor race after the previous deputy mayor resigned. He says he believes in public service and has the skills and time to take on the role.
Proderick’s priorities include protecting green space, ensuring responsible development and attracting more commercial and industrial businesses. He also wants to support local businesses in Bath and Odessa while balancing the township’s historic character with projected population growth.
Advance Voting is currently underway until election Day on October 26th.
