Lennox and Addington County OPP laid 11 charges and took three commercial vehicles off the road during targeted inspections over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
An OPP officer trained in commercial motor vehicle enforcement and a Ministry of Transportation inspector completed nine inspections, focusing on vehicle equipment and driver compliance with provincial traffic laws.
Police say the results highlight the need for continued enforcement to improve road safety.
According to the OPP, 13 per cent of collisions this year have involved commercial vehicles, with 18 per cent of those collisions resulting in fatalities.
Improper lane changes and excessive speed were identified as leading factors in collisions involving commercial vehicles.
Police say enforcement will continue along key trucking routes throughout the year to help prevent serious and fatal collisions.
The OPP are reminding motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility. Anyone who witnesses unsafe driving can contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or call 911 in an emergency.
