Construction continues on County Road 49 as Prince Edward County moves ahead with a major road rehabilitation project.
The municipality says work to break up the existing concrete roadway continued south of Bethesda Road last week. Rubblization is expected to progress past the Heidelberg Materials cement plant by the end of next week.
Base paving at the north end of the project is scheduled to resume Wednesday, Oct. 21, and continue through Friday, Oct. 23. Culvert work, box culvert installations and subdrain work are now complete.
Drivers can continue to expect delays of five to 10 minutes near construction and paving areas. Both lanes of traffic will reopen at the end of each construction day.
The contractor is applying calcium and water to gravel sections as needed to control dust.
The county says alternate routes may offer little or no time savings. Drivers using County Roads 5 and 15 are reminded to obey speed limits and drive carefully in residential and rural areas.
