Health-care providers across Hastings and Prince Edward counties are encouraging residents to get vaccinated against flu, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as respiratory illnesses arrive early this year.
Quinte Health, Hastings-Quinte Community Paramedics, Southeast Public Health and the Hastings Prince Edward Ontario Health Team are working together to improve access to vaccines.
Many local pharmacies have received flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Home vaccination may also be available for eligible residents who cannot leave their homes and are connected with Ontario Health atHome or Hastings-Quinte Community Paramedics.
Ontario’s publicly funded RSV vaccine is available to adults aged 75 and older, as well as adults aged 60 to 74 who meet certain high-risk criteria. Eligible infants, high-risk children and pregnant individuals can also access RSV prevention.
Health officials say older adults, young children and people with weakened immune systems face greater risks from respiratory illnesses.
Residents can use Quinte Health’s Know Where to Go resources to find appropriate care for non-urgent health concerns. For emergencies, call 911.
