Local hockey talent helped the Belleville Bearcats bring home two championships from the North Halton Fall Showcase earlier this month.
The U11AA Bearcats went undefeated through round-robin play before beating Kitchener 4-2 in the quarter-final and Brock Jr. Badgers in the semifinal. Belleville then defeated the Etobicoke Dolphins 7-5 to win the title.
The championship team included Napanee-area players Thessaly Chadwick, Carley-Jo Thompson, Chloe Groenewegen and Izzy O’Hoski. They wereled by Head Coach, Napanee’s Joe Thompson, Manager Drew Chadwick and Trainer Andrea Chadwick.
The U15A Bearcats also captured gold after entering the tournament’s AA division to face stronger competition.
Belleville beat the Huron Heat 2-1 in the semifinal before meeting the WNY Jr. Cataracts in the final. The game was tied 4-4 after regulation before Belleville scored eight seconds into overtime for a 5-4 victory.
Napanee-area player Audrey-Mae Thompson was part of the U15A championship team.
The two titles provided an early-season highlight for the Belleville girls’ hockey program.
