The Rotary Club of Napanee has received $3,000 toward a planned covered structure at Market Square.
The Lennox and Addington Chamber of Commerce presented the donation Saturday during its weekly market. The money came from proceeds from the Chamber’s annual golf tournament.
The Rotary Club plans to raise $125,000 over five years to help build a roofed structure over Market Square, behind the old town hall. The open-sided structure would provide shade for market vendors and shoppers and could also be used for community events.
The project is part of the club’s plans to mark 100 years of service to the Napanee community.
The club is also raising money for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in partnership with the Lennox and Addington County Library. The program provides books to children from birth to age five.
Rotary members are selling 50/50 tickets ahead of a Dec. 8 draw. If all 2,000 tickets are sold, the winner will receive $10,000.
