Lennox and Addington County council is asking staff to study the need for farm safety signs as seasonal traffic increases on rural roads.
The issue was raised at council’s Aug. 12 meeting by Max Kaiser of the Lennox and Addington Federation of Agriculture.
Kaiser said farmers are facing increased traffic from summer visitors and other activity, creating concerns about the speed difference between regular vehicles and farm equipment.
The Garrett family, which farms south of Roblin, has raised concerns about traffic on County Road 41, which it regularly uses to move farm equipment. Traffic has increased with summer cottage activity and a new wastewater management facility in the area.
County staff will complete a safety study to determine whether additional signage is needed. If signs are warranted, they will be installed.
Staff are also recommending an education campaign featuring agricultural and slow-moving vehicle signs that would rotate through different farming areas.
Council directed staff to research farm safety signage and complete the safety study.
