Most municipal races in the area remain uncontested with the nomination deadline approaching this Friday, August 21.
In Greater Napanee, Ward 4 has two new candidates looking to fill the seat, as Councillor Bob Norrie has shared he’s not seeking re-election. In the race are Michelle Edgar and Jeff Chestut seeking the seat. As of last week, Ward 2 Councillor Angela Hicks had been unopposed. But Jason McDonald files his paperwork yesterday, Aug. 17, giving us a second ward with a race.
Mayor Terry Richardson, deputy mayor Brian Calver and councillors Mike Schenk, Shawn Davey and Bill Martin are currently running unopposed.
Loyalist Township Mayor Jim Hegadorn is currently unopposed. Paul Proderick and Mike Budarick are seeking deputy mayor. Lorna Willis is the only Ward 1 candidate, while Larry Laird and Karla Thompson are running in Ward 2.
In Stone Mills, Shari Milligan is the only candidate for mayor, while Rob Fenwick is the sole deputy mayor candidate. Seven people are seeking five council seats, including Paul Rogers, Joe Condy, Lisa-Ross Black, Wenda Lalande, Julie Nizman, Frank Rowan and Zach Lyman.
The nomination period closes Aug. 21, with municipal elections set for Oct. 26.
