Prince Edward County OPP charged five drivers with impaired driving-related offences during the first nine days of August.
Police say three of the cases involved drivers charged with operating while impaired by alcohol and drugs, along with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
On Aug. 3, officers conducting a RIDE checkpoint in West Lake arrested a 50-year-old Picton woman. On Aug. 7, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision in Athol and arrested an 18-year-old Picton man, who also faces cannabis and release-order charges.
Two more cases were reported Aug. 8. Officers conducting a RIDE program in West Lake arrested a 39-year-old Scarborough man, while traffic enforcement officers in Picton arrested a 32-year-old Prince Edward County resident. The latter was charged with failing or refusing to comply with a demand.
On Aug. 9, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision in Demorestville and arrested a 36-year-old local man.
Police are reminding drivers that impaired driving can involve alcohol, drugs or refusing a lawful demand. They are urging motorists to plan ahead and arrange for a sober ride.
Police also remind anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 911 immediately.
