The Town of Greater Napanee has begun a major cleanup at a Bridge Street property following a court order over illegal activities and property standards violations.
Contractors are now removing construction materials, demolished structures, sewage, solid and liquid waste, drug paraphernalia, medical and biohazardous waste, human waste and brush that could create fire risks.
The work is taking place at 1388 Bridge Street, where more than 30 trailers and cinderblock structures were ordered removed. The court order also required people living illegally on the property to leave and construction materials and refuse to be cleared.
The Town says the property was not properly zoned as a trailer park and inspections found it unsafe and unsuitable for human habitation.
Part of Bridge Street West will intermittently be reduced to one lane during the cleanup. Drivers are asked to use caution.
The Town says by-law response times for non-critical complaints may be delayed, while urgent issues will remain a priority.
