The Amherst Island Agricultural Society is continuing to build on years of work to make its pavilion a gathering place for residents and visitors.
Society president Garry Filson said the fairgrounds had been inactive for about 50 years before volunteers reorganized the agricultural society and secured funding to build the pavilion.
The pavilion now hosts a Saturday market and social featuring local produce, sourdough bread, homemade goods and crafts.
The agricultural society is led by a nine-member volunteer board and works to promote rural life while maintaining the facility. Membership is open to everyone, not just Amherst Island residents.
The society hopes to continue improving the pavilion and expanding its role as a community hub.
