A new interactive exhibit at the Museum of Lennox & Addington is giving visitors the chance to step back into the 1970s while celebrating the museum’s 50th anniversary.
Local artist and vintage collector Becky Hinch transformed one of the museum’s galleries into an authentic 1970s living room using furniture, toys, books and household items from her own collection.
Unlike a traditional museum display, visitors are encouraged to interact with the exhibit. Guests can sit on the furniture, browse vintage magazines, play with toys, explore a sewing box and even help fold a basket of retro laundry.
An audio guest book built into a vintage phone bench also invites visitors to record memories inspired by the display.
Hinch said the exhibit will continue to evolve with seasonal decorations for Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas before remaining on display until the New Year.
The museum is also planning a Vintage Market on Sept. 18 and 19 featuring vendors selling items from the 1960s through the 1990s, along with a fashion show and retro refreshments.
