The Lennox and Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) celebrated its 60th anniversary Tuesday while officially opening its new 128-bed long-term care home in Greater Napanee.
The event brought together elected officials, hospital leaders, staff, volunteers, donors and community members to recognize six decades of health care and the beginning of a new chapter for local seniors.
MPP Ric Bresee said the project has been years in the making and will help address Ontario’s growing need for long-term care spaces.
Hospital Foundation Chair Jeff Cuthill highlighted the hospital’s growth over the years, including the addition of chemotherapy, dialysis, CT and MRI services.
President and CEO Mike Bell said the hospital’s greatest strength has always been its people.
Long-term care administrator Kyah Dillon called the opening “the beginning of a new chapter” for residents, families and staff, saying the home reflects the organization’s commitment to compassionate, resident-centred care.
The celebration concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of the new facility. Margaret Rivers, the eldest resident at 107-years-old, had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon alongside President and CEO Mike Bell.
