Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Greater Napanee and surrounding areas as hot and humid conditions are expected to continue through much of the week.
The warning, issued Sunday afternoon, calls for daytime temperatures between 30 and 36 C, overnight lows between 20 and 23 C, and humidex values ranging from 38 to 45.
The heat event is expected to begin Monday and continue until Wednesday evening or Thursday evening. Tuesday is expected to bring the hottest conditions, with temperatures reaching near 36 C in some areas.
Officials are warning that extreme heat can affect everyone’s health, especially older adults, people living alone and others at higher risk of heat illness.
Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable people regularly and watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including headaches, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and extreme fatigue. Anyone experiencing symptoms should stop activity and drink water. Hot and humid conditions may also contribute to worsening air quality.
