The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding the public to call 911 if they see a pet showing signs of distress inside a hot vehicle this summer.
OPP Sgt. Erin Cranton said anyone who notices an animal in a parked vehicle should first safely assess the situation.
Cranton said people should not automatically break a vehicle window because it is not always clear whether the animal is in danger.
The OPP also reminds pet owners that even on mild days, temperatures inside parked vehicles can quickly become dangerous.
Cranton ended in saying If it looks like an emergency, call 911. “We’d rather be safe than sorry.”
