Residents will have an opportunity to review plans for the redevelopment of the former Queen Elizabeth School site in Picton later this month.
New View Holdings, the private partner leading the project, will host a public information centre on July 16 at Picton Town Hall from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Final site plan drawings will be available for public viewing, and attendees will be able to speak with project representatives and technical specialists.
Information from the meeting will also be posted on the municipality’s Have Your Say engagement platform for residents who cannot attend in person.
The redevelopment involves the former school property at 35 Barker Street. The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board declared the school surplus in 2018. After a federal funding application for affordable housing and a community hub was denied in 2023, Prince Edward County purchased the site and sought a private-sector partner.
The project aims to provide affordable and market rental housing, create a community hub and allow the municipality to recover its investment in the property.
