A new community block party in Greater Napanee will do more than bring people together for one evening, it will also launch a program designed to help residents organize their own neighbourhood gatherings.
The event takes place July 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Market Square. Afterward, residents can head to Movies in the Park!
Greater Napanee Connect’s Tiffany Lloyd said the celebration is meant to introduce the new Block Party Lending Program.
The event will feature DJ Digital Mike, line dancing, a barbecue hosted by the Rotary Club, local vendors, community organizations, games and activities. Residents will also be able to see what is included in the lending kit.
The kit, available for a small refundable deposit, includes a 10-by-10 tent, a large Bluetooth speaker, lawn games and a first aid kit. Information on borrowing the kit, including road closure applications, deposits and pickup instructions, will be available on the organization’s website.
Organizers are also seeking a few more vendors, with priority given to local food, beverage, farm and artisan businesses, along with community groups.
Lloyd also announced that Guitars and Cars will return Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-registration is currently open.
