Belleville police are reporting several recent investigations, including an intimate partner violence incident, an employee fraud investigation and an attempted motorcycle theft.
Police say officers responded to a domestic dispute in the city’s east end on June 24 after witnesses reported seeing a man yelling, throwing a bottle and assaulting a woman.
Following an investigation, a 37-year-old Belleville resident of no fixed address was charged with spousal assault and held for a bail hearing.
In a separate investigation, police have laid multiple fraud and breach of trust charges following a complaint of alleged employee theft.
Investigators say an organization first contacted police in early May after concerns were raised about the use of a company-issued credit card. Police allege an employee used the card to purchase personal items while claiming the purchases were for organizational use, with the costs charged to various client trust accounts.
A 32-year-old Belleville resident was charged with multiple counts of fraud under $5,000 and criminal breach of trust. The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in July.
Police also responded to an attempted motorcycle theft at a business on Moira Street East on June 24.
Investigators say an employee confronted a suspect who was attempting to steal a motorcycle, causing the individual to flee before officers arrived. A short time later, police arrested a Belleville resident after receiving reports of suspicious activity nearby. The accused was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and released with a September court date.
