A 32-year-old Picton resident is facing several charges after Animal Welfare Services, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police, executed an animal welfare warrant at a home earlier this week.
Prince Edward County OPP officers were called to assist shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday as Animal Welfare Services carried out a warrant under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act. The warrant authorized officers to enter the property and remove a dog believed to be in distress.
Authorities said Animal Welfare Services had received ongoing concerns about the dog’s treatment, including reports of physical abuse and failure to comply with previous orders.
Police allege the resident assaulted an officer and resisted arrest during the investigation before being taken into custody after a brief struggle. Officers and Animal Welfare Services then entered the home and located the dog.
Jordan Fenemore, 32, of Picton, is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer and causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Picton.
