Two people are facing charges after a late-night traffic stop in Prince Edward County that began with an Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) alert.
Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle on County Road 1 shortly before midnight on June 20, after the system flagged the registered owner as a suspended driver. Officers confirmed the driver was operating while under suspension and showed signs of drug impairment.
A Drug Recognition Evaluation determined the driver was impaired by a drug. Police also seized a suspected Schedule I substance during the investigation.
OPP say ALPR technology is used to identify suspended drivers and support road safety enforcement. Charges have been laid against a 44-year-old Marysville man and a 33-year-old Belleville woman. Police say impaired driving enforcement will continue across the region
