Severe weather is expected across the region today as Environment Canada issued a yellow watch and yellow warning for severe thunderstorms along with squall and strong wind warnings on the lake.
Forecasters say conditions are favourable for thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts up to 90 km/h, heavy rain and a risk of isolated tornadoes. The storms are expected to develop late Thursday morning and continue into the early afternoon as a low pressure system moves out of the region.
On Eastern Lake Ontario, strong wind and squall warnings are in effect, creating hazardous conditions for boaters. Waves are expected to build quickly, turning calm waters into rough and unpredictable conditions.
Officials are urging residents and mariners to stay alert, secure loose items, and seek safe shelter if threatening weather approaches.
