A $1.25 million donation from Kingston philanthropist Stephen Sorensen will improve emergency care across southeastern Ontario.
The funding will support new diagnostic imaging and critical-care technology at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, including Kingston General Hospital’s Emergency Department and the Urgent Care Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital.
Hospital officials say the equipment was chosen with input from frontline staff, including doctors, nurses, and technologists. The upgrades are expected to speed up diagnosis, improve patient flow, and support faster treatment decisions when seconds matter.
The donation includes advanced fixed digital X-ray systems, a mobile bedside X-ray unit, and tools for airway and cardiac care used in critical emergencies. Leaders say the investment will help care for more than 650,000 people who rely on KHSC.
Sorensen says the goal is practical, clinician-led philanthropy focused on fast impact. Hospital officials say the gift strengthens emergency services and improves access to care closer to home.
