Canadian veterinarians are encouraging pet owners not to skip annual wellness exams, saying routine check-ups can catch health problems early and potentially save both lives and money.
Experts say dogs and cats often hide signs of illness, meaning conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis and dental problems may go unnoticed until they become serious.
Local veterinarian Hailey MacDonald shared what’s involved in these visits.
Veterinarians say yearly exams help monitor weight, mobility, heart health and overall condition, while also keeping vaccinations and parasite protection up to date.
Dental disease is another growing concern, with many pets showing signs of oral health issues during routine visits.
The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association says preventive care is becoming increasingly important as pets live longer and receive more advanced medical treatment.
Many clinics now recommend twice-yearly exams for senior pets. MacDonald tells us why.
