More than 520 volunteers from 38 workplaces fanned out across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington on Friday as United Way KFL&A’s annual Day of Caring returned for its 2026 edition.
Supported by platinum sponsor TD, volunteers completed projects at 50 community agency sites throughout the region. Teams took part in painting, gardening, repairs and clean-up work designed to help local organizations improve their facilities and focus resources on serving residents.
Kim Peachey, chair of the United Way Day of Caring Committee, said volunteer participation has continued to grow over the past three years, with more than 500 people signing up to support local agencies.
She said the event gives volunteers a chance to learn about community services that supported more than 54,000 people over the past year while helping agencies complete projects they may not otherwise have the time or budget to tackle. Peachey explains more.
The Day of Caring has been running in KFL&A for more than 25 years, generating thousands of volunteer hours and supporting hundreds of projects.
The day began with a kickoff event at the Community Food Redistribution Warehouse on Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard before volunteers headed to project sites. Participants later gathered at Lake Ontario Park for a wrap-up barbecue. Peachey says that this is a great way to give back.
United Way KFL&A raises funds and supports programs that address immediate needs while working with community partners to tackle broader social challenges across the region.
