A major enforcement effort at Sandbanks Provincial Park during the annual Skip Weekend resulted in multiple licence suspensions, arrests and charges.
Members of the Prince Edward County OPP, assisted by the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, OPP Marine Unit and park wardens, conducted RIDE programs and proactive patrols throughout the weekend.
Police said approximately 900 vehicles were checked during the initiative.
Several drivers received seven-day licence suspensions for alcohol-related offences, including warn-range readings and novice drivers found with blood alcohol levels above zero. Two people were arrested for impaired driving and later released. Licence suspensions were also imposed.
Officers seized significant quantities of alcohol from people under the age of 19. In some cases, alcohol was found inside moving vehicles, resulting in charges under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
Additional charges were laid for having cannabis readily available inside a vehicle.
Police also responded to a youth requiring medical attention after consuming alcohol and cannabis, investigated a stolen vehicle that led to an arrest, and dealt with several traffic-related incidents that resulted in further charges and warnings.
The OPP said enforcement efforts will continue and reminded motorists that there is zero tolerance for impaired or unsafe driving.
