The Kingston Field Naturalists will host their 28th annual BioBlitz in the Verona area, bringing the public together to record local plants and animals over a 24-hour period.
The event runs from 3 p.m. on June 12 to 3 p.m. on June 13 on private property near Verona and is open to the public.
Participants, including natural history experts, amateur naturalists and community members, will identify and record as many species as possible. The goal is to measure biodiversity and create a baseline of local wildlife in the area.
The free event combines science, education and community participation, with guided walks offered throughout the 24 hours to help participants learn about different species.
Organizers say the BioBlitz supports their mandate to promote public interest in nature and expand knowledge of natural history.
Full schedules and details are available on the Kingston Field Naturalists website.
