A new fundraiser at Napanee District Secondary School is giving residents a chance to save water while helping students travel overseas.
The school is selling rain barrels, composters and accessories to raise money for a student trip to Vietnam planned for March Break next year. Orders must be placed online by June 5, with distribution expected around June 12.
Kristen Kinney, one of the teachers organizing the trip, said the fundraiser was chosen because it is simple for students to promote during a busy time of year.
Kinney said the timing also works well because gardening season is underway and many residents are thinking about water conservation after last summer’s dry conditions.
NDSS has a long tradition of international travel opportunities for students, with previous trips including France, England, New York and Japan. The next destination will be Vietnam.
Kinney said international travel helps students gain independence, build life skills and better understand other cultures.
She added that purchasing a rain barrel benefits both the environment and the students taking part in the trip.
Orders can be placed through the fundraiser website until June 5.
