The founders of the Napanee Heritage Race have made their final donation to the Town of Greater Napanee, giving more than $35,000 toward local trail improvements.
During a deputation at Tuesday night’s council meeting, race co-founder Heather Giffen announced a donation $35,532.64 for the town’s in-town trail revitalization project.
The race was created in 2016 by Griffen, Erin Gregory, Tammy Pigion and Tricia Cammaart. Giffen said the event regularly brought close to 700 people together each year to run, walk, wheel and spectate.
Speaking with myFM after the deputation, Griffen said organizers chose the trail project after discussions with the town, where they learned the in-town portion of the trail was going to be revitalized.
Registration is already open for the 2026 Napanee Heritage Race, which is being organized by the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation.
Council voted to receive the deputation and direct staff to prepare a report regarding the donation.
