The Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre is inviting the public to their annual Wildlife Baby Shower and Open House on Sunday, May 10, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how injured and orphaned animals are cared for.
myFM spoke with Kelly Fraser, who says the free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the centre on County Road 2.
For one day only, visitors can tour the main building and see current wildlife patients as part of the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.
We asked what types of babies they are caring for at the moment. Fraser says their clientele includes baby bunnies, racoons, squirrels, and a few fox kit.
The event is both a learning opportunity and a critical source of funding. The centre treats thousands of animals each year, with care that includes specialized food, medical treatment, enrichment, and trained staff.
Funds raised will help cover those ongoing costs, with several ways for attendees to contribute. Activities include a silent auction, on-site vendors, gift shop purchases, and direct donations.
The event is also designed to be family-friendly, featuring activities for children in the education area.
Live music will be provided by The Retro Kings, a Kingston-based group performing acoustic soft rock hits from the 1960s to 1980s, along with original songs.
Organizers say the day offers a chance for the community to connect with local wildlife and support conservation efforts in a hands-on way.
