The Ontario government is investing up to $2.65 million to connect more people to primary care in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
The funding is expected to help up to 5,972 residents find a family doctor or primary care team this year. It is part of the province’s larger plan to connect everyone in Ontario to care by 2029.
The Hastings and Prince Edward Ontario Health Team will lead the effort by creating a system to accept new patients and guide them to available services. Care will be delivered through community health centres and family health teams.
The province says the funding will expand team-based care by adding more nurses and other health professionals. This is expected to improve access and reduce pressure on doctors, especially in rural areas.
Ontario says it has already exceeded its target for this year, connecting more than 330,000 people to care as of January.
