Flood conditions are easing across the region, with Quinte Conservation confirming that water levels in rivers and lakes have peaked and are now starting to recede.
Officials say recent rainfall and warm temperatures caused a third surge in water levels this spring, but conditions are improving. Seasonal levels are expected to return over the next few weeks.
The agency says most waterways remain swollen but stable. In Prince Edward County, smaller creeks are still elevated but dropping. Larger systems, including the Moira River, are also receding after recent peaks.
While the flood watch has ended, Quinte Conservation warns that nuisance flooding could still occur if heavy rain returns. Residents in low-lying areas are encouraged to stay alert and monitor conditions.
Officials also recommend checking sump pumps, having backup power available, and keeping drainage systems clear.
Quinte Conservation says it will continue monitoring water levels and adjust operations as conditions return to normal.
