The Ontario Provincial Police says turnaround times for online police record checks have improved significantly, now averaging about 10 days.
The update follows a major backlog in 2025, when processing times stretched to between 12 and 14 weeks. Officials say the delays prompted a full review of the Online Police Record Checks Unit.
The OPP says it completed an internal audit, updated procedures, and added resources to handle demand. The service standard remains 30 days, but recent improvements have reduced wait times well below that target.
Police note that processing times may still rise during peak periods, but weekly updates are posted online.
Residents in OPP-served areas must apply through the online system, as local detachments do not process requests.
Officials are asking the public to contact 1-833-909-0057 or opp.virtualdesk@tritoncanada.ca for questions and avoid non-emergency lines unless immediate police assistance is needed.
